AEW

AEW is the new wrestling company that’s poised to give Vince McMahon fits. The Pakistani-American Khan family is funding the organization and it’s more focused on athletic aspects of wrestling compared to WWE’s entertainment emphasis.

The name AEW means All Elite Wrestling and it’s a play on the phrase “all-inclusive.” They’re backed by multimillionaire Pakistani-American entrepreneur Shahid Khan, who also owns the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, among other sports ventures. His son, Tony Khan, is the promotion’s president and CEO.

In contrast to WWE’s gimmick-driven brand of wrestling, AEW gives its talent creative freedom in terms of naming and gimmick development. It’s not uncommon for AEW stars to appear on other promotions in exchange for a pay-per-view.

A roster of 100 isn’t enough for three hours of television, so AEW rotates its talent in and out, giving fans a much-needed break from the same faces over and over again. It’s a refreshing change that’s likely to get better over time.

AEW’s high-flying, action-packed live events inject freshness and new energy into mainstream wrestling. It’s led by a world-class team of diverse talent, including Kenny Omega, Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D., CM Punk, Chris Jericho, The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), Adam Cole, Sting, Jon Moxley, Miro, Lucha Bros., PAC, Hangman Page, and many more.

AEW also features a legendary commentary team with Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and Excalibur calling the action every week. Their weekly television show, Dynamite, features matches taped at Universal Studios Florida and includes interviews with AEW’s roster and independent wrestlers.
